The Woodcut Tools Mill Drill Universal simplifies the production of pepper mills by replacing multiple drill bits with one versatile, adjustable tool.

Originally developed in collaboration with Australian woodturner Brendan Stemp, the Mill Drill Universal was created to streamline the drilling process for CrushGrind® Shaft and CrushGrind® Shaft Mini mechanisms. Also suitable for use with the Creative Turning pepper mechanisms Types 1, 2 and 3. By adjusting the two precision cutters, the tool machines the required stepped holes quickly, accurately, and consistently, saving both setup time and the cost of multiple drill bits.

Fitted with a No. 2 Morse Taper, the Mill Drill Universal fits directly into the tailstock of most woodturning lathes, allowing the complete drilling operation to be carried out without removing the workpiece.

How It Works

After drilling the pilot hole in your pepper mill blank, the Mill Drill Universal enlarges the opening and machines the required stepped diameters for the pepper mill mechanism. The adjustable cutters produce accurate shoulders and hole depths, ensuring the mechanism fits securely and consistently.

Because the cutters are adjustable, the Mill Drill Universal can also be adapted for many other drilling applications where stepped or larger diameter holes are required.

Sharpening

The cutters are manufactured from M2 High Speed Steel and arrive sharpened ready for immediate use.

When required, they can be easily maintained using a Woodcut Credit Card Diamond Hone or similar fine diamond sharpening tool.
